After 40 years of critical care nursing, Russell Banks's wife found that kicking back on a cruise ship and being pampered was a well-deserved retirement. It took Russell a while but for the last 10 years, he has applied his photographic training and skills to develop a body of work that seeks to find meaning in these floating worlds. As an observer and participant, Russell became fascinated by the tension between dream and reality-the blurred lines between mundane routines of daily life and the carefully curated fantasies of the cruise experience. In this exhibit, you can find Russell-questioning, seduced and conflicted-by his cruise ship experiences as depicted in the images he has chosen to capture.
